India edged closer to confirming its three-tier strategic deterrence on 10 August by activating the reactor aboard INS Arihant , its indigenously developed nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), at the secretive Ship Building Centre (SBC) in Visakhapatnam on the East Coast.
